UUCC Welcomes Visitors
Enter, Rejoice and Come In

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Canandaigua
is a caring and welcoming congregation that
fosters personal and spiritual growth
through free religious thought
in the search for truth,
while celebrating
diversity and
affirming the
dignity and
worth of every person.
Welcome to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Canandaigua (UUCC). We are happy to have you visit us online or in person.
We are a religious congregation that encourages personal and spiritual growth through each individual's search for truth and meaning, an interfaith community of religious beliefs. We are a welcoming congregation and celebrate diversity by affirming the dignity and worth of every individual. As a member congregation of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA), UUCC does not adhere to a dogma, creed or any specific doctrine.
MEMBERSHIP
Members of the Unitarian Universalist Association have various beliefs and spiritual backgrounds (including Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Earth/Goddess-centered and other faiths, as well as atheist, agnostic and humanist). As a member of our congregation, you are free to express your own personal religious belief, share and learn with others during your journey through life. Membership is accomplished by talking with the ministers or UUCC board president and signing our membership book. Individuals from age 14 up are eligible to become members.
Each Unitarian Universalist congregation is democratically governed by a board of trustees elected by the congregation.
MINISTRY
Our congregation was served by founders and Co-Ministers, the Reverends Maureen and Carl Thitchener, 1997-2008. A board of trustees, and the directors of music and religious education provide support for our minister. Our services are filmed regularly for Finger Lakes Television Cable, and Rev. Carl Thitchener’s UU interviews are archived on uuradio.org.
Our minister also performs Memorial Services, Wedding Services, LGB&T Union Services, and Child Dedication Services.
WORSHIP
We meet for worship and fellowship on Sunday mornings at 10:00a.m. Our services include sermons, hymns and musical interludes, sharing joys and concerns with each other, readings, poetry and encouragement. Our services may be led by our ministers or by a lay member or guest, offering a variety of perspectives. After each service, we welcome you to join us in fellowship during coffee hour to meet one another and learn about our congregation and members.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
We have a Religious Education Program for all age groups, teaching our children and youth from different religions beliefs and life principles from around the world. Visit our website at www.uucc.us for detailed
information regarding our Religious Education Program and our philosophy for teaching children and youth.
SOCIAL JUSTICE AND OTHER ACTIVITIES
Unitarian Universalists are known for their involvement in social justice activities. Members of our religious community participate in local peace and justice organizations, help run the Green Sanctuary program at UUCC, and assist at Herb Haven (an herb farm providing employment for women in recovery) as well as organizing monthly collections for designated organizations.
WELCOMING CONGREGATION
The Unitarian Universalist Church of Canandaigua is a welcoming congregation. We address the needs of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender individual, couple and family, recognizing their presence, incorporating their experiences into our religious community, and offering ministerial support for unions and memorial services.
